Carrie – She’s a Beautiful Thing

Years ago when my husband and I were dating we had one of those evenings where the wine was flowing, the conversation was lax and a few little skeletons started to emerge.

Unbeknownst to me, one of those tiny, pretty, little skeletons was going to eventually surface in the most wonderful way.

He came clean that night with something pretty drastic. "I have a daughter," he blurted out. Whaaaaat??

He was young when they had the child. After much deliberation he and the birth mother decided the best scenario for their daughter would be adoption. It only made sense to allow a family capable of providing her with the nurturing she would need to raise her in a proper environment.

Over the years my husband made little comments here and there, wondering where she was, what she was doing, who she had become. One day, he would need to meet her. He thought of her often.

Last September his wishes came true; after 27 years, he met his beautiful daughter...

...and her crazy cute best friend, Lucky.

I can't imagine how he must have felt during that moment right before she walked through the door. But I think it's safe to say it will forever be one of his most precious.

Carrie is now apart of our lives and we love her dearly. She is gorgeous, smart, successful, independent, and, most importantly, has a beautiful, kind soul.

My husband's 50th (yikes!) birthday is around the corner. In celebration, we are going on a pretty fantastic trip: Paris, Dubai, and the Maldives.

Carrie will be joining us for the Paris portion.

I cannot wait to show her my favourite places...

...and why I am so enamored with this city.  I keep asking her what she would like to see, do, etc. and her constant response has been, "Just lead the way!" So I will.

We will sightsee until our feet are throbbing, shop until we're broke and eat until we can hardly move.

My own personal experience with including Carrie in our lives has taught me a great deal: the importance of timing, acceptance, and unconditional love. How can you love someone you've just met? I am actually not sure, I just do.

Two weeks today we will be packing for Paris. Ahhhhhhhhhh! I am so excited I can hardly stand it.

Stay tuned for lots of pictures, updates, and who knows what as we travel along.
